Music - The Boxcar Mavericks
Introduction
The Boxcar Mavericks wasn’t just a band—it was a sound, a direction, and for a time, a proper part of who I was. Built from a love of Americana, blues, and blues rock, it became something real—something with weight. I wasn’t just along for the ride either; I founded it, led it, wrote the songs, and stood front and centre of it all. Every note, every lyric, every gig… it all meant something.
We released an album, Ain’t Complainin’, along with the single Drinkin’ with the Devil, both of which found their way onto streaming radio as well as platforms like Spotify and iTunes. Not bad for something that started as an idea and grew into a living, breathing thing. There’s even vinyl on the wall at home now—framed, not forgotten.
Like a lot of things during that time, it eventually faded. Covid hit, life shifted, and people naturally went their separate ways. There was no drama, no fallout—just the quiet reality of something reaching its end before it probably should have.
But endings aren’t always final. The Boxcar Mavericks may be a closed chapter for now, but it’s far from buried. The music is still there, the ideas are still there, and the door is very much still open. Maybe one day, with a new lineup and a fresh spark behind it, it finds its way back again.
